Value For Money

When you get the chance, rewatch the 1994 Keanu Reeves movie Speed. Dennis Hopper holds an elevator hostage for $3M, when Keanu and Harry from Dumb and Dumber stop him he destroys one city bus, holds another ransom for $3.7M. A bus costs about $500K. They destroy two. Plus an airplane and a train. Plus all the damage to private property the bus causes. The plane alone is in the ballpark of $50M and Dennis Hopper is only asking for $3.7M? Even in 1994 dollars this is just bad economics.

I like Graham Yost's writing. I'll even give him a pass for writing Speed 2 because Justified is great. But asking for only $3.7M so that Dennis Hopper can deliver great one-liners and  clean-shaven John Wick can shoot the hostage is just a disappointment. Somebody doesn't know what he's worth.
